The department of philosophy is one of the first philosophy departments in China to receive the right to award doctoral degrees; In 2002, it became a doctoral degree authorization unit in the first-level discipline of philosophy, with eight doctoral programs and corresponding master's programs in Marxist philosophy, Chinese philosophy, foreign philosophy, logic, ethics, religious studies, philosophy of science and technology, Eastern philosophy and religion (self-established), of which Marxist philosophy is a national key discipline, religious studies is a key discipline in Jiangsu Province, and there is a postdoctoral mobile station of philosophy covering all disciplines. In 2017, the subject of philosophy was rated A in the fourth round of subject evaluation by the Ministry of Education, ranking joint third in China; In the same year, it was selected as the national "Double First-class" construction discipline.
